Coat Drive

We talk a lot about what we can do to help in our own community. And one thing that kept coming up was the need for warm coats. So many of our neighbors try to get through the winter with coats that are too thin, too torn, or too small to help protect them through our bitter winters. And a lot of people were sure to have coats just hanging out in their closets, and they were not going to be using them this year, or ever. So we decided to do a coat drive. We placed boxes in several locations including Bevier City Hall, Chariton Valley Retail Store, and First Christian Church . We were just overwhelmed about the donations we received. We are very thankful for all who donated to the purple boxes, and we feel blessed to live in this community.
We spent a Saturday at the laundry mat, washing all we had collected. They came in in bags, and went back out on hangers, smelling great and ready for use! We collected more than 80 coats, plus scarves, hats, and gloves. A few required some zippers to be replaced, but that is a simple thing in helping someone stay warm this winter.
So thanks to all who donated. You have made a difference in a lot of lives this winter, and have shown your desire to help others.
