Formula Donation
Every year that we make our trip to Haiti, we try to do something extra that will help out the people of this community. Because our trips are more than just providing medical care, it is about caring for others and showing them that they are special.
This year, there seems to be a lot more children in need. Maybe it is because there is, or maybe it is because they have been found. Either way, the call went out for the need for formula to feed these starving children. We thought and prayed, and thought again about what we could do to help. But, as anyone knows who has bought powdered formula, it is quite expensive. And buying enough to really help would be cost prohibitive. So after more thought and prayer, we turned to a way to spread the word to many more people than ever before, Social Media.
We turned to our Facebook pages, and searched out the local swap shop for Macon County, Missouri. We posted that we were looking to take some formula to feed the babies, and if they had any they would not be using, if they would consider donating it to our trip. We had hoped to receive a few cans. A few cans would be better than none. But we never expected the outpouring of support that we received. Multiple people expressed an interest in donating, and we received more powdered formula than we ever expected! And this means more babies will receive the nutrition they deserve. Because no child should ever go hungry.
We delivered this formula during our May trip. We hope to be able to post some of the babies that are blessed to receive this nutrition, all because of wonderful, supportive people who are caring for babies they will never see, never cuddle, never meet, but for babies where they will definitely make a difference in their lives.
