Mission Trip: Haiti

This group of people all come together to enjoy a unique experience. From all parts of the country they came, from different walks of life. They made their living from all types of careers. Each with their own reason to make this trip. Each with different goals in life. And each left with different feelings regarding Haiti. They came to Haiti as strangers, but they left as friends. And most left a piece of their heart  behind. Time spent together praying, talking, playing games, and teaching children songs of praise for Our Heavenly Father. Laughter and joy from the fun, tears and sorrow from leaving. And for several, a cleansing of the soul; tossing away the past and feelings of guilt, while taking on the feelings of a pure heart. For some, a strengthening of their faith, while for others a renewal of theirs. And all left knowing that God does indeed live in this country, deprived of many things but the love of our Father. Some will go back to Haiti, some never will,  and some will hope to make the trip in the future.  But all will be bonded to each other forever, because each decided one day to embark on an adventure to Carrefour, Haiti.

The roads as we were
leaving the airport. Trying
to repair the streets and
make the road safer.

Christina holds the sign,
written in Haitian, as
Sheena and Ali lead the
children in song during
a session at Vacation Bible
School.

And yes, this is really an
alley they have gathered
in to praise God and join
in a time of fellowship.

The boys play soccer in the street.
They have fashioned their own
nets and use whatever type
of ball that they can find. Some of the boys we saw were barefoot. And could they ever run! And this area is gravel, rock, and concrete chips.

One of the children we saw during Bible School. Many of the children we met wore whatever clothes they happened to have, but they wore the biggest smiles you could ever imagine.

Drena tells a story, while
Watson translates the tale.
The children really looked forward to the stories that
Drena told during the trip.

Kara helps with the box of crayons that were passed out each day. The children loved to color, as did the adults. None were left out of the fun. And on several days, the pictures were taped to the wall for all to see.

Ellen holds a little girl, pretty in pink. All smiles for this little doll.

Ellen has since moved to Haiti, and is working to help improve the lives of the children in Haiti. You can follow her blog by clicking on this link. And we offer our prayers to what you are doing. You are definitely touching lives by your presence.

Pierre Louis Duclair, the minister at the church where we worked during Vacation Bible School.

Pierre has a strong faith and it is evident in every aspect of his life. He was a great help during the trip, and with the doctor when we took our young girl.

Smiles were frequently
seen on the faces of the children around Carrefour. How can you look into the eyes of this child and tell
her that you don't care?
Nah, we couldn't either.

Sheena has the attention
of 2 young girls, as they
color the pages brought to entertain. Many colors
were used, and there were
some real artists in the bunch!

Our new friends. They were our translators, our protectors, our guides, and most importantly they became a part of our families.

While out on the devotional walk, we looked up to see balloon animals all around. We arrived back to where we were staying to see this. Our friends Christina and Drena were surrounded by the children. And they were making balloon animals and hats for all. They were a couple of popular people that day!
